My High School Campus

I passed by my high school campus last night. It has been a long time since the last time I passed by that side of the city again. When I started working, I never had a chance to visit that side of the city; where the schools and the universities are and where all my schoolmates and friends live. Anyway, I felt sad when I saw the spot where my high school "used to be" located. The classrooms and buildings are no longer there. It was replaced with a new building - a condominium. Great... the cost of economic progress; is it worth it?

The trees were also gone; and the flowering shrubs were replaced with steel fences. The playground where we used to run around was replaced with a swimming pool. A guard house is now standing on the area where used to be the swing sets are located. We had good and unforgettable memories on those swing sets. It is where most friendships at school started; it is where we would sit, chat and swing during recess; and it is where secrets were shared, tears were shed and laughters were heard.

Now tell me, are all these worth the condominium building they put up on the used to be happy, fun-filled place called high school campus? (sigh)
